PET TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS - ENTER YOUR DESTINATION AT USDA-APHIS PET TRAVEL.
• It is extremely important to start planning as soon as possible and become familiar with additional specific airline requirements and timelines. The requirements can change, so we recommend checking again each time you travel.
• Traveling by air with your pet can be stressful: There are limits in the number of pets per cabin, weight for travel in the airline cabin, carrier requirements, temperature requirements, health certificates, airline forms and for some international destinations there could be a number of tests and treatments that need to be followed months ahead of time.
• International health certificates need to be completed within a number of days from the flight and also require submitting electronically to the USDA vet for final endorsement. It can become a time crunch.
• If a rabies titer is required, you will need to allow a month for the results (expedited fees can reduce the time by a few weeks). If the pet has only had one rabies vaccination, or there has been a large gap between vaccines, he/she may not pass the rabies titer. In addition, some destinations require documentation that the the appropriate microchip was implanted prior to rabies vaccination and hence may need an additional rabies vaccine and waiting period.
• Some destinations even require the veterinarian to administer and document parasiticide treatments a few days prior to travel.
• Please read the requirements, collect all the rabies vaccination certificates and map out your timeline to make the process much smoother.
