PET BEHAVIOR / TRAINING

Check the links below for specific issues and here go the basic skills all puppies and new dogs need:
1) Get them used to being handled by opening their mouth, looking at the ears, touching feet, etc... so will be able to medicate when needed later on.
2) All training should be positive with rewards. Dogs do not learn from punishment. They want to please you, so use the rewards and find moments to praise.
3) Socialization with other dogs (once vaccinated) and other people. Do not accept growling or menacing behavior with other people.
4) Make sure your dog is OK being alone- this is an important skill and good for their well being to be able to be alone.
5) Be in control. This does not mean harsh discipline, but it is good for dogs to have to perform tasks and get rewarded for them and know to listen to commands so that then you can bring them to all environments and not encounter any problems. A good useful command is to "Sit and Stay". It is useful to stop any unwanted behaviors.
6) Remain calm- our pets pick up on our anxieties, so stay calm and in control to reduce the stress on your furry companion.
